Threads

Open a thread to discuss something specific without filling the channel with messages only three people care about. The thread hangs off the message you pick.

Using one

Hover a message and choose Reply in thread. Swarm opens a panel beside the channel with the root message and its replies.

Write in the panel's composer: it keeps its own draft, apart from the one you left in the channel.

In the channel, the root message says how many replies it has and when the last one arrived.

A thread does not bold the channel

Your sidebar stays quiet when someone replies in a thread: a thread reply does not mark the channel unread.

The thread marks itself, and whoever needs to know hears about it through their reply alert.

Thread notifications

Take part in a thread and you start getting alerts about its replies.

To stop them, open the root message's options menu in the channel and choose Turn off notifications for replies. You turn them back on from that same menu, which lives in the channel and not inside the thread panel.

Mute a thread you never opened and the replies already there are not left marked as pending. Muting is not reading, but it also does not hand you an unread pile for something you have set aside.

Muting is yours and nobody else's.

Pinning messages

Pin messages from the channel's main feed, not thread replies. The pins panel shows each one in full, with its files and its links.

Back to the original

Choose Go to original message in the thread's header and you land on it in the channel, with everything that was said around it.

When a thread disappears

If someone deletes the root message, the thread goes with it. Swarm says the thread is no longer available rather than showing orphaned replies.
